We were at a cookout last week and had the brats and hotdogs from this place. They were very good. We will be checking out their store next week. It's only a few towns away (20 miles) and I never knew it even existed. Sounds like it's been there for years. Go figure, Ey.

And the best on is in my back yard. From pasture to pit to table all within a few hundred yards.

We used to have a place called Kirby's Meats here in Stow but it closed down before I was a carnivore, so I never frequented the place. As of now, I am aware of 2 locations for locally sourced meat....

Duma Meats in Mogadore
https://dumameats.com/

^ These guys are the KING! And I will plug them every time I can.

Buckeye Quality Meats in Streetsboro
https://www.bqmfresh.com/

^ Comparable to Duma's but a much smaller store and smaller scale operation, and therefore more pricey. They can't match Duma's on price because Duma pushes so much volume.

If you are struggling to think of variety on your carnivore diet, a walk through these places will fill your mind with all kinds of ideas.

I've likely located a place not too far from my place. At those you buy half a cow, or somehting like that, so I will need a dedicated freezer. I am looking for solutions. We have a local supermarket, and their meat is a very good quality, but as a local shop, they are expensive. I still try to support them over the Dollar General, in fact, I refuse to go to a Dollar General. It is those places that push the locals out.

We've been getting most of our beef from local places like Walmart or Meijer when it is on short sale discount. That is a hit or miss kind of deal but it sure beats their regular price for meat. Picked up 2 half briskets yesterday @ Meijer for $3 a pound. Those will go on the smoker Thursday morning about 5am. They had a few hot dogs and brats which I grabbed up also. No more room left in our freezer, Which is great as a carnivore 😄. Eat up Boy's and girl's!

You might say I have a plethora of butcher shops around my area. Lol.

And those aren’t even all of them 😁

I would assume a lot of great BBQ places also?

We had two in town and both have since closed. One was the Oak Grove Market. They butchered in one part of the building and another part those same meats were cooked and served. We shopped there a couple times per week and ate lunch there at least once per week.

The second was called "Supply Line". Their meat selection was tremendous and if they didn't have what you were looking for they would track it down and it would be there the next time. Even for a local, family-owned business they kept their prices down and relied on service and quality to offset the big box stores. They were able to do that for years and years.

I miss both those places.

We now have one 20+ miles away that is 'from the field to your table' and their meats are incredible. Expensive over time, but incredible.

Everything is high, and if they bought high and sold low, they would be out of business in short order. In some slight mental justification, I shop there because I have saved money just eating meats and secondly, they are local, and family owned. Maybe the third, the young man that opened it is maybe 26-27 years old and when he interacts with customers you would think he was the 75 year old farmer from down the road that watched everyone grow up. An old soul.

Our pork is from out back to inside, only a few hundred feet from the door. Eggs the same.

We can't raise any "meat" where we live due to zoning and if you want chickens for eggs there is a limit of 4 and it's a yearly license of $50! I'll just stick with Wally World or Aldi for eggs.

We returned to this place today and picked up some more brats and some of their natural casing weiners. I grabbed the gummy bear brats just to say I tried them. I would think they will have to be an interesting taste. I'll be grilling them tomorrow. The wife and I were both "BAD Carnivores" today 🤣 - On the way home we stopped at The Hamburger Haus in Dundee, Wis. and we each had a double cheeseburger, split an order of fried cheese curds and 2 scoops of ice cream. We fell off the carnivore wagon and then got run over by it. Oh well, so be it. We will start over in the morning. I'm sure it won't be the last time 🤣. luckily we live about 20 miles away from this place and don't get that way too often. A big double cheeseburger for $5.50 can't be beat and it comes on a sheboygan hard roll (Famous in S.E Wis - if you know, you know kind of thing). It's been a nice day all around.

And how were they? I would never have dreamed of mixing gummy bears into my sausages. I imagine it was like sweet and sour chicken, lol :P

More novelty than anything. They just tasted like a regular brat with no noticeable sweetness. Now the wood fired pizza flavor brat is another story. That one will be bought again on our next trip over their way. I'm also going try making those myself next time pork shoulder goes on sale. The natural casing weiners they make are very good also. They have that "snap" when you eat from the casings. So much taste adventure being a carnivore. I've never gotten that out of a spinach salad. All that ever gave me was kidney stones.

Speaking of kidney stones. My brother in law suffers from kidney stones quite often. His doctor always tells him to avoid red meat. I've tried to tell him that's a myth and he swears by what the doctor says, because after all, he's a doctor and I am not.

But then I ask him, if red meat causes kidney stones, why have I never had one in my life, and now that I've been carnivore for 2 years, why haven't my kidneys turned into solid rock, lol?

That sounds like the "shrimp causes gout" myth

I thought it was liver that caused gout?......

Myths and folklore have become quite entertaining over the past year on carnivore.

A friend of mine at work has kidney stones somewhat regularly. His doctor told him it was the soft drinks/sweet teas (sugars). I can't say that is not true but I can say I was drinking 4-6 sometimes 8 20oz Mountain Dews a day, plus a couple glasses of Pepsi or sweet tea at night. I have never had a kidney stone.

I am not much on liver, beef, chicken or pork, but I do buy it for the dogs on occasion. Three-four five times I have been at the counter with a couple-three packs and there will be an older lady telling me to be careful, liver causes the gout. Again, never had gout and don't like liver, so maybe it is so, maybe it is not.

As of late I'm choosing not to dismiss the 'medicinal folklore' though, because it seems in a lot of cases we have outsmarted ourselves in current times.

Well, doctors are here to keep us confused and extract money from us through itemized bills. They may also attempt to help you, but that is secondary. They may try to help you based on out-dated and pharmaceutical based funded education.
