Hello everyone. I'm new to this group and fairly new to carnivore. I have been carnivore way of eating (woe) started October 2024. Started out a dirty carnivore. Eating predominantly anything with a face and some dairy. After 3 months of losing 10 lbs and then stalling I made the decision to cut out dairy. I have had more weight loss but keep stalling. Always looking for resources and like minded communities, I decided to join Carnivore talk. I struggle with the protein/fat ratio and the consumption of those on a daily basis. Looking for guidance.

Welcome. And congrats on your choices.

I try not to say vague or 'carnivore like' things as I am learning as well, (just over a year) and I think my biggest lesson thus far is that we are all individuals. My plan may not be your plan, nor vice-versa.

I will speak only from my personal experience. This morning marks -95lbs since May 8th of last year, just a little over a year. I had stalls along the way and as well as weight swings.

I found out for me that nothing put the breaks on a fall and triggered the stall like a couple glasses of milk. I could be in a 3-4-5-6lb fall over several days and a glass of milk on a couple nights and it slammed the breaks on the fall. That stoppage then became a stall. When the weight loss was my primary goal milk was no good for me. I have talked to others that have had similar experiences and it is probably that way for a lot of people. At the time my WHY CARNIVORE? was all about the weight loss so I had to leave the dairy to continue with the falls and avoid the stalls.

You mentioned struggling with the protein/fat ratio. First change your approach. Look at it as a fat to protein ration because actually serves us better. Search this forum and Bob has a great video in counting fat and protein grams/calories. In the beginning I didn't count and sort of found some things out the hard way. Protein higher than fat usually led me to constipation, upping the fat content helped me stay regular. There were times when I probably did too much fat and got sort of loose, well, way loose. But for me, fat is the driver.

I shop cheap and my wife does not do carnivore. Sometimes our dinners are cuts of meat that are lean and certainly not enough fat for me. I will add butter, sometimes using butter as 'side dish'. LOL I add the butter or tallow when we eat her choices and if those lean cuts are super cheap I save a couple dollars.

That keeps my fat content up.

Sometimes the stalls are due to meal timing as much as what you are eating. When we wake up our insulin in normally higher than our daily average. The 'dawn effect'. So if we eat early in the morning the insulin is up and we just sort off add to it and when the insulin is up losing weight is somewhat difficult. If I wake up, go about my normal day and my first meal is late in the morning or even lunch/later, my falls were more consistent.

Good luck, and again, welcome. This is a good place to learn and share experiences.

Thank you Scott. Congratulations on your weight loss. 95 lbs is awesome. A little about my journey, first thing in the morning I typically will drink 16 ounces warm water with 10 drops of lemon essential oil and 1/4 tsp of Himalayan salt. I will usually get ready for the day and then will have butter coffee. I will have 16 ounces of coffee blended with 2 Tablespoons of kerrygold butter. Then around noon, will have my first meal. Usually 2 fried eggs with 3 strips of bacon. This will hold me until dinner around 5:30 pm. My starting weight is 259 and current weight is 230.

Welcome Lala.

As Scott said we are all individuals so don’t judge yourself against anyone else who eats this way.

Being female you have a disadvantage because of your hormones. Sorry but that’s just how it is. But persistence and determination will see you there eventually. I like to use Kelly Hogan as an example. She didn’t lose weight for six months. The thing is, she realized that this is not a weight loss diet. It’s a lifestyle way of eating to heal the metabolism. She was also willing to experiment to find what worked best for her. She does on line counseling that may be beneficial for you.

From your description it sounds like you are eating ok but maybe not enough. I’d starve only eating a couple of eggs and three strips of bacon at one meal. That doesn’t even whet my appetite. I just finished eating my one meal for the day of 16 oz of smoked lamb with a half a stick of butter and I’m not satisfied yet. I’ll be getting some more lamb in just a minute and if that isn’t enough I’ll probably cook up 4-6 eggs.

If you don’t eat enough your body can go into starvation mode and refuse to use any stored fat. If you aren’t eating enough fat and too much protein your body can create its own glucose and use it first for energy instead of stored fat.

If you haven’t already I would get the book The Carnivore Diet by Dr. Shawn Baker in book form or Audible. He does a really good job of explaining everything you need to know to do this correctly and why we should eat this way.

Good luck and good health

Unfortunately brother I don't see where the OP states they're female 😅

Welcome aboard.

What's your WHY on starting this LIFESTYLE?

Like Geezy said earlier, eating enough fatty meat 73/27 ground beef mixed with eggs is a good start.

Slices of cold butter with your protein choice is another way to add healthy fats.

Choose your salt wisely as Pink Himalayan salts are not the same.

I prefer Redomond Real Salt #10 on amazon is best way to go.

Cheers

Hi Meathead. Thank you for your response. Just to clarify, Geezy is correct, I do have hormones and I am a post menapausal 63 yo female. SW 259 CW 230. My why is to lose weight and to heal my body. I do know from doing a lot of reading and listening to podcast and post from different sources, I know my body has to undo the damage and to heal before I can releases weight. I have seen benefits from this woe and so thankful. I just want to make sure I am doing carnivore correctly to get the best outcome. I've have listened to Kelly Hogan. I did not know about her online carnivore course. I will have to look and see if I can find it. I've started out dirty carnivore and after a couple of months of stalling, I cut out dairy. I now primarily eat beef, bacon, eggs and butter. I switch it up sometimes to other meats like chicken things, wings or salmon and shrimp. I was eating much more protein and much more fat prior to cutting back on dairy. But the weight loss was slow then too. I've been told to eat 2 fat to 1 protein. I've tried that as well. I am insulin resistant and I am sure this is causing the stall as well. Like I said I learn something new everyday.

LalaH

Understood things are different and possibly more difficult for females > males.

I'm insulin resistant still after 11 months but I'm less concerned about weight

than I am about my health.

I had 1 foot in the grave the other on a banana peel before I started.

My WHY is wanting to be here for my wife and furbaby.

Took me 5+ decades to make bad choices I don't expect to

have overnight success (but I have had it starting out).

Stay the path, don't get discouraged as the scale is not the end all be all,

our body will show changes in inches and less swelling/pain/inflammation.

Cheers
