Hello everyone. Hope all is well. 

I'm Ibo. 36 yrs old from Belgium. For too long have I been struggling with inflamatory diseases such as arthritis and gout. Even hair follicules inflammation. On top of that diabetic type 2. 

 

I stumbled upon the carnivore diet, but waited for too long to start. I was always biased for what it might do with my gout. But, since I get a lot of flare ups even without the carnivore, i figured what the hell. Especially when I saw people around me who didn't need to lose weight, but still did. 

 

So i'm starting now. 

Hope to learn from you people. 

 

Ps: is it ok to drink coke zero during this diet?

Hello Ibo and welcome! I think you are taking right step forward, by heading into carnivore lifestyle and by seeking community here. As for the diet soda, it is something you will want to aim at getting rid of. Club soda, plain seltzer, and sparkling water are good alternatives. But don't worry if you are not wanting to give it up immediately, sometimes it's easier to eliminate the worst things first, like foods with seed oils and sugars first, then naturally high carb foods, and so on.  some people like Prof Bart Kay, think it makes more sense to go carnivore gradually like that to avoid  drastic change that may shock the digestive system.  The diet soda will eventually sabotage your efforts. Kelly Hogan of myzerocarblife on YouTube talks about how much harder Carnivore was for the first year or so because the artificial sweeteners gave her cravings. I'm not sure what is in coke zero, but aspartame is a neurotoxin and most other sweeteners negatively impact the gut.

Hmm interesting that part about the aspartame. What about sugar free gums like the ones Menthos offers. They coimntain it as well, bit only having maybe 2 gums per day couldn't hurt right?

The thing with sweeteners is that they are bad for keeping insulin low. They trigger cephalic phase insulin response. So your brain gets the message that you have had something sweet and needs to regulate the blood sugar so it preemptively doles out insulin and causes low blood sugar, making you hungry and other problems. It's best to avoid them. Especially in an empty stomach.

Welcome and hope the diet works for you.

The diet is much more about the elimination of foods than what you actually eat. What you eat is pretty simple, meats salt and water. For some the diet becomes akin to religion and like religion, some see things differently. When I started I had just bought a 12 pack of Mountain Dews and a tub of ice cream. Tossing those out or wasting them at them time was not going to happen. My first week I had the eating part right but I finished off the soft drinks and ice cream so I didn't truly start eliminating til five or six days later. I went for a stretch using the drink mixes as I was not a big water drinker. 

The carnivore diet has worked for me thus far, just over four months. I have found that I do better and feel better on red meats, salt and water. I do eat other meats, chicken, fish and pork, but mostly red meats. 

As for your inflammation, I too have/had similar issues with an autoimmune disease. I was on gabapentin (neurotin) and prednisone since 2018. In less than a month of elimination the pain and stiffness disappeared. 

As you get started read about fat content and electrolytes. The first thing we think of is just eating meats but fat and electrolytes are the two drivers of the carnivore diet. 

I should have lead off with 'just four months' because I am in the infancy of the diet. At some point it will become a lifestyle at least that is my working goal right now. This is a great place to ask questions. it is 'real' people giving their personal experiences which for me, is much better than a medical study or a youtube video that says "make sure you click, and subscribe and use my code when you purchase from my sponsor....I feel like those have an agenda. Here, I don't feel the 'agenda' when people post. That is just me tho.

Hello and welcome aboard. 

I compare your statement to giving heroin addict Narcan so they can keep doing heroin.

You're on the right path starting carnivore.

1. Electrolytes = Redmond real salt,Himalayan salt or Celtic sea salt mixed with your water daily. 

2. Fatty meats as fat is where you get most of your energy. 

3. Eat until you don't want to put more food into your body. 

4. Keep plenty of meats yes even hotdogs,spam something you can snack on just in case. 

5. Rinse and repeat. 

Don't worry so much about supplements or anything until you have blood work done (thorough).

The more you can eliminate, the better. 

For the record, I still drink diet soda and occasionally (not daily) chew gum. I still lost a ton of weight and reversed several of my health issues, save one. I would try to lose the gum chewing though. That satisfies a fixation for snacking and tasting something sweet, both of which you want to conquer. Plus, overdoing it on the artificial sweeteners found in chewing gum will cause gas and digestive upset.

The diet soda is more benign, but can still be an addiction. And it may trigger a cephalic phase insulin response - although with you being a type 2 diabetic, this probably isn't an issue. And not all artificial sweeteners do this for everybody, and not everybody has this response.

The more health issues you want/need to fix, the more strict you want to be for 30, 60, or 90 days (the more the better). If you're generally healthy, you can take a more carnivore-centric, carnivor-ish, meat-based keto approach.

Everyone gn has been spot on with their advice so I have nothing to add there.
As far as artificial sweeteners it’s an individual thing. Some people can tolerate things like that and can moderate them but for me I have to constantly abstain or it will cause cravings in me. As a carb addict I have to stay away from anything sweet. I even have to be careful of dairy because of its sweetness.
You asked about hotdogs. When it comes to processed meats you need to read the ingredients labels and try to find the cleanest you can. Many have sugars and grain fillers in them. Now if it’s all a person can afford then it’s still a thousand times better that any carbohydrate you could eat. I personally don’t eat them but if I was on the road and needed something to eat and all there was available was hotdogs I wouldn’t hesitate to chow down on some and be thankful to have them.
