Hello everyone,

New Carnivore here, I'm starting a three day sardine fast and wanted to see if anyone had any advice,  experience or suggestions!

I have done quite a bit of looking into it and others experiences on YouTube etc.

"Sardines are packed with essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamins (including vitamin D and B12), and minerals such as calcium, iron, and magnesium, sardines are a near-perfect food. Omega-3 fatty acids, for instance, are vital for heart health, reducing inflammation, and supporting brain function. The high protein content makes them an excellent choice for muscle building and repair, while the vitamins and minerals they contain are crucial for overall body function." - simonstapleton.com

Here in New Zealand i can source tinned wild caught sardines in springwater and will bake them myself to eat with homemade ghee.(Adding in fat was also suggested)

I heard the fast it is a great way 'reset' hunger cues. I am finding I am ravenous on Carnivore after almost two months and just can't seem to feel satisfied ,even when I'm so full I can hardly move. I eat strictly- grasfed beef, organic eggs, salmon and sardines. I cook with ghee and use only celtic salt to season, and drink only water and black coffee.

Wishing everyone a Blessed day

Sophie

Hi @Alesop .

You're on the right track BUT.....

your FAT intake sounds on the lean side.  Find a butcher you can buy fat from around the kidneys or fat trimmings that you can eat.

Rendered fat is not the same as fat.  Anything cooked, heated or frozen changes molecular structures and nutrition values.

Good luck with your fast.

I did a couple fasts and for me, hydration and electrolytes were my primary concerns.

As far as sardines go, you are tougher than me, I can't swing them myself.

I have been the opposite. I am seldom actually hungry. I can't eat near what I was eating seven months ago.

Best of luck. Keep us posted. I'm a fan of other people's experiences. (still learning)

I’m with meathead on this one. While protein is important for our overall heath we need more fats than we do protein.
I’m not saying don’t try your sardines but make sure you’re eating a good source of animal fats otherwise you may be defeating the purpose of a carnivore diet.
Good luck and let us know how it works for you.

Thankyou so much to everyones suggestions and support!( im super new to forums and can't figure out how to reply to each of you individually lol)

I've made sure to be eating lots of ghee( which I make myself) and i do try for the fattiest cuts of beef (eye/scotch fillet) but I will look at upping it even more as i know my protein intake is on the higher side.

I do intermittent fasting , nothing longer than about 20 hours as i have a history of dissorded eating and restriction so must be a bit careful -I know for others fasting is a fantastic tool!

I tried fat fasting on butter when first starting carnivore for a day also, I'm definitely going to try the local butcher for the rendered fat/ trimmings- I do particularly enjoy fat!

Its 5pm here on day one and ive had two meals of sardines and plenty of Ghee. I feel great so far- I haven't had any cravings yet and feel very satisfied.

So far so good.

Thankyou again for the suggestions, it's great to have found this platform  🙂

Trimmings or kidney fat aka suet

Wikipedia-

"Suet is the raw, hard fat of beef, lamb or mutton found around the loins and kidneys."

These are the only ones you want to get to munch on or grind in with lean meat.

Rendering makes tallow with leftover bits to eat.

My recommendation is get suet and try it raw to up your fat intake.
