That's how we are rolling also minus the work part (Retired). Going to try and squeeze in some disc golf also, weather permitting. We are going to rocket all the way up to 61'F this weekend 🤣.

This is usually the weekend I open my pool but it has been unseasonably and unbearably cold this last week. And the rain seems like it will never end.

However, most MEAT is on sale, so I will be stocking up ;)

"World Carnivore Month" January Challenge!

Today is the first day of January and is also the first day of World Carnivore Month. To that end, let's challenge ourselves to eat a carnivore diet for the entire month of January. The type of carnivore diet and the level of strictness you choose to do is entirely up to you. Examples of carnivore diets include the following... 1) The Lion Diet. A person eating the Lion Diet only consumes the flesh of ruminant animals, water, and salt. 2) The BBBE Diet. BBBE is an acronym for Beef, Butter, Bacon, and Eggs. 3) The Carnivore Diet. This allows for the consumption of any and all animals and animal by-products, including dairy. In any of the above examples, the object of course is to not consume any plants as part of your diet. Of course, we're not going to micromanage hoe you prepare your food, so your use of seasonings is entirely your own personal choice. IF your circumstances don't allow you to go full on carnivore in January, then you can participate in this topic by challenge yourself to do better, above and beyond what you have been doing. For example, if you have still been eating grains, seed oils, refined sugar, or drinking alcohol, challenge yourself to avoid these items and just eat a clean, single ingredient whole foods diet such as clean keto, ketovore, or animal based. We encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk. Participants in this topic will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the month.

Stalls happen. Dr. Berry will often say that it doesn't qualify as an actual weight-loss plateau unless it's been 90 days will no change in weight. And then, we have to start looking at what we can do. Is there any carb creep? Did we start snacking or eating extra meals? Are we eating before bed? Have we been drinking or increased drinking artificially sweetened beverages? Have we almost but not quite reached our goal weight? (the last stretch is stubborn). Are we eating too lean and not enough fat? Can we start doing exercises, even if it's just squats or walking around the house? Can we cut out dairy? Can we try intermittent fast, OMAD, or extended fasting? Etc. And then beyond lifestyle changes, we could check for thyroid issues and check where your sex hormones happen to be.

Likely ALL of that is (poor) diet related. High carb high sugar diet brought back the weight, made you insulin resistant, and is likely the cause in the rise of your triglycerides. Your eGFR indicates you are on the cusp of Stage 3a Chronic Kidney Disease. You had success before on a keto-carnivore diet, and you can have success again. I would make returning to and sticking to a proper human diet (carnivore or carnivore-centric keto/ketovore) your primary goal. Yes, cholesterol may go up. We do not worry about that. Trigs usually drop dramatically, but in my case they actually went up because of my kidney disease. I no longer recommend fenofibrate. I was on it for a year, and it tanked my kidneys, and I was deep into stage 5 renal failure for a while. I am currently reversing the damage done. If you remain on fenofibrate, get blood labs regularly and watch that creatinine and eGFR. If creatinine rises and eGFR comes down, get off if it immediately. Those trigs might go up during active weight loss but will eventually come down when you reach a goal weight and remain weight stable for several months. Omega-3 supplementation (fish oil) has been known to help lower trigs. I should have recognized the adverse effects of fenofibrates such as muscle twitching, late night leg cramps, and more, but I passed it off as an electrolyte imbalance due to my kidneys. I don't take fenofibrate nor any electrolytes anymore and I am fine. But you want to eat fatty meat, not lean meat. In the absence of carbs, fat is your energy, and your goal is to become fat adapted. The vegetables are optional. Either eliminate them altogether or only eat the low carb cruciferous kind while weight loss and healing are your goals. Later in life you can occasionally treat yourself/toy with a few more single-ingredient plants or fruits, but you have goals to reach first and one of them is getting the addiction to carbs and sweet tasting things under control. So my experience with fenofibrate ended in a nightmare. There is a part of me that wants to take the video down, but at the same time the explanation of what's happening in the body and everything else is still good information. Now I would do diet first. Today I only take meds for blood pressure and that's it. My LDL varies between 200 and 300 and I am not worried. My trigs were up to 2887 at their highest as you know from the video. Fenofribrate brought them down to about 555. And believe it or not, I just tested again 2 days ago after being off fenofibrate since last November (6 months now) and my trigs were 222, proving they would have come down on their own eventually (I do take fish oil). Yes, they say high trigs increases your "risk" of heart disease, but I am still alive and well. "Risk" is relative and so much goes into "risk". Most people who have high trigs eat candy, cakes, cookies, pies, chips, donuts, and other high carb junk foods. But that's not me. My trigs are high for an entirely different reason (most likely that I spill lipoprotein lipase in my urine due to my CKD). So were my trigs still a relative higher "risk". Maybe. I'm not so sure. Now with that said, I know people who take fenofibrate with no issues at all, such as my father. And I know doctors who take statins. For example, Dr. Ford Brewer takes a very low dose rosuvastatin, not for it's LDL lowering effects, but because it helps keep down inflammation. Sure there is a time and a place for these things, but I personally believe that most medications should be temporary, not lifelong, and one's goal is to get to the root cause and fix the issue, which is usually diet and nutrition.

Yes there was a change in habit. ate what was served . Sure I could have complained but I was in no position to. I'll add fats to the diet and take the fenofibrate as well till I have labs I plan on doing myself in 3 weeks. If the trigs are down I won't be taking them anymore. Trust me the Statin rosuvastatin* they gave me I have no plans of adding. I just picked them up so the Mil. Doc doesn't realize I didn't take them. The Fenofibrate isn't a statin according to research I did . But want to thank everyone who responded it's preaty much the way I was gonna go.

I would also make some adjustments now before waiting to see how much more it rises. Since your numbers have trended up, and not the result of a sudden shift, I would think you can make some adjustments and maybe lower it a few points. When I started carnivore, I went in headfirst with no foresight or insight. I had salt and electrolyte issues in several different ways. I made an electrolyte drink mix and went that route a couple days. It tasted like crap, so for me it was easier just to put a gram or two in my mouth and chase it with water. I would do that a couple three times per day. It corrected a lot of things. Not by intention, or for any particular reasoning, that sort of faded. Now I salt my food to taste with that same electrolyte mix and am finding I don't require near as much salt as I did during the transitioning (as Geezy said, the dumpster diet I was on had enormous amounts of sodium, and I am sure I had a sodium crash early in the change). My blood pressure has always been around 100/65, give or take a few numbers here and there. About 8 months in I got a 110/70, which for me was "high" and then I see a 120/75 for the first time ever. I had not linked salt and blood pressure for me, and it is not like I made a purposeful decision, but now I hardly use salt at all. I may salt my eggs but that is not every time, and I am nowhere near the 4g you mentioned. This past Monday while prepping for my infusion my blood pressure was 100/65 and once even 100/55 during the infusion. Again, I have no idea if there is a link between the two for me as an individual, and even less about your situation, but a daily 4g sounds like a lot. With all that said, I have always had a relatively low blood pressure and I am not sure if the rise over those few months was part of the carnivore healing phase, it was the first time I had ramped things up in the gym in years (and years) or if I hadn't totally dialed back in from the headfirst dive into carnivore. Interesting topic. I hadn't thought much about it til reading this post. Scott
