Kidney issues

Hi, for the last 3 weeks I’ve been watching videos on YouTube about carnivore diet and kidney disease. This has been on my mind because lately the last two or three months may be a little longer. I’ve been feeling like crap. Every time I go get blood work, they tell me I’m fine. I know I’m not. Now I’m starting to see foamy urine and that is concerning me. Which is why I’m interested in carnivore and maybe this could help. Not sure if anybody has any similar issues or dealt with that. I have no one to talk to which is why I joined this community seeking for advice help or maybe someone I can relate.

Welcome to the community. I started the carnivore diet with my only knowledge being 'only eat meat and only drink water'. The 'not knowing' and 'damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead' approach made it

Welcome to Carnivore Talk.

I’m far from being an expert when it comes to kidney function, that would be Bob’s department but foamy urine isn’t always a problem. I think it depends on how concentrated it is and how fast it dissipates.

Normal urination: A strong urine stream hitting the toilet water can create bubbles that look like foam.

Concentrated urine: If you’re dehydrated, urine is more concentrated and can appear foamier.

Protein in the urine (proteinuria): This is the most important medical cause. Excess protein can make urine consistently foamy and may indicate a kidney problem.

Urinary tract infection: Less commonly, an infection can cause changes in urine appearance, especially if accompanied by burning, urgency, or cloudy urine.

Certain medications or substances can occasionally contribute.

Review these causes of foamy urine and see if any apply to your situation.

Thanks for replying. I’m a truck driver and i thought it was my toilet, but if I’m on the road and I use bathroom somewhere else I’m still seeing the foam. That’s why I’m concerned.. I’ve seen a lot of carnivore videos that healed kidneys. I’m willing to try it not only that I have no problem. I’m already thin, my fear is losing more weight and can’t lose any more weight. I love my wife but she thinks I’m putting too much thought into it but I told her, I’m always tired and sleepy. That’s not normal.

I started carnivore as the latest weight loss hack. Turns out, its effects on health seem to be never ending. It seems so many illnesses and diseases stem from our garbage diet.

I lost a bunch of weight on carnivore. I ate when I was hungry and ate til I was full. The weight peeled off. When I felt like I had lost too much I continued with carnivore (due to the incredible health improvements I was experiencing) but I upped my protein throughout the day and I gained weight. I went from well north of 300 to 211, looked sickly and felt weak, and back to 238 and now down to around 225.

As said, Bob would be the resident expert on kidney related issues. I see foam every so often. I think mine comes from some dehydration, especially when I am not fasting. I don't always drink like I should. During those stretches I see darker urine that can be quite foamy.

When I get back on track with my water the urine lightens some and the foaming goes away.

Good luck.

This could be a variety of things. But if it were kidney related, fatigue would become a problem in the later stages of chronic kidney disease, like stage 3b, 4, and 5. For the record, I am teetering on the cusp of Stage 4/5 CKD. I used to feel like crap before I started 1) my carnivore diet, and 2) supplementing vitamin D because my blood labs showed that I was very very low. These days, I usually feel just fine. Once in a while, my legs feel like lead weights, but I just push through.

To rule out kidney issues, we're going to need to see that blood work, and maybe some additional labs, like....

  • Serum Creatinine + eGFR

  • BUN

  • Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR or ACR)

We can also double check electrolytes. I believe all of these are included in what is called a "Renal Panel" that either you or your doctor can order up. A CMP (Complete Metabolic Panel) usually tests for all these things too.

And then it wouldn't hurt to see where your vitamin D levels currently sit.

Appreciate all the replies. First time joining a group. It’s good to hear people stories and walks. Get a better understanding of things.

I started the carnivore diet with my only knowledge being 'only eat meat and only drink water'. The 'not knowing' and 'damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead' approach made it to where I learned a few things the hard way.

I wish I had found this group first, prepped some things, learned some things and then said, 'damn the torpedoes....

It is a great place to read and learn and when you share, it is much appreciated.

Good luck.
