Falling Off The Wagon

Recommended Posts

One major (silent but deadly) consequence I can think of is, the mindset of the near miss. In driving, when people narrowly avoid accidents it only serves to embolden the more aggressive and poor choices behind the wheel. So, if you ate some garbage and your feet didn't fall  off the next day; you may be tempted to think, well a little cant hurt here and there. Until you, do it a little bit more, and a little bit more until you realize your not even close to being a carnivore anymore. Just a thought.

Ice cream followed by beer would be a gut grenade for me.

I would say it is not the end of the world. I'm a believer in if you can 'fall off the wagon' you in turn can crawl back up.

I wouldn't beat myself up too bad. Maybe don't think about doing two more months but maybe two more days. Build from there. Do the best you can.

Best of luck.

@Miranda & @Scott F. are spot on Rose. It’s more of a psychological thing that anything.
You may experience some physical issues with your gut or inflammation but of course that will pass. It has probably knocked you out of ketosis and it may take a few days to get that started back up but as long as you jumped right back into carnivore that’s no big deal.
You may experience some weight gain. I’ve heard of people gaining 5 pounds or more from just one indulgence. Again, not the end of the world but be aware that it can take several weeks for your body to readjust and start losing that weight again.
What’s important here is that you need to forget the mistake but remember the lesson.
Re examine why you got started on carnivore in the first place and recommit to this lifestyle. It’s never worth tossing away all of the hard work to get where you are now for a momentary pleasure.
You’ve got this.

Don't worry about it. First of all. The more you think about it, the more likely one is to make rationalizations on why not?

The consequences are this: your actions.

Falling off the wagon and getting up is what matters here. Do NOT punish yourself. Just learn the lesson. Now you know how easy it is to sneak in garbage foods. It's a valuable lesson if anything. Your body is tricking you with cravings counting on impulse decisions to take over. Next time you have a craving, grab the food, leave the kitchen and wait 5 minutes. Then go back in the kitchen and ask yourself why you grab the crap food to begin with. In those 5 minutes you have a conversation with yourself. Know WHY you eat. Move on without over thinking it. Outsmart to impulses. Be your own drill instructor if you must, but do not look back, onwards.

@Rose62 You know your why you changed your lifestyle to carnivore.  Consequences of falling off ask yourself was it worth it?

When you drive are you worried what's in front or you always lookin in the rear view??

Not 1 person is perfect but that's not an excuse to eat junk.

You got this and we're here to support you ❤️

Thanks for the comments. I've been back without variance. But yeah, the main question was whether or not I would be off ketosis and for how long. I'm not trying to lose weight, as I'm a very small, short guy and weight has never been a problem. My main objective was to lower my BP without medication. No change on that yet.

Even if you're out of ketosis, it's not something to worry about. For example, I ate a cookie last week. Somebody baked their own cookies and asked me to taste it. I didn't want to be an asshole so I did. Then I moved on. Like you, I also do not seek to lose weight. So it's not like it'd be interrupting a weight loss journey of the kind. Once you're fat adapted it's much easier to go in and out of keto, I've been at it for nearly a year now, so I am not worried.

The cookie was ok, said it was amazing. But I did not want more, I did not like the effect it had on me. The shackles of sugar are slowly eroding.

I'm THAT asshole.

Then again people respect my lifestyle so they don't ask me to partake in deviations.

@Rose62 if you're trying to get off bp meds there's a natural solution and don't knock it til you try it.  I know this works from personal experience.  150/80 to 117/65.

NATTO is fermented soybeans which I am probably going to get back on to get my bp down as well.

Japanese did a study on it and it's a natural anti coagulant along with other health benefits.

  • 2 weeks later...

Rose62 It is enjoyable and possible to eat Ice Cream on carnivore. Get an Ice Cream Machine (I got a single serving one from Kohl’s), I used Dr. Kiltz’s recipe but left out the sweetener, butter chips and vanilla. I just used heavy cream, egg and a pinch of salt. I had it in the middle of summer, it was really good.
